Sheldon S. Cohen, Esq., CPADirector
The Honorable Sheldon S. Cohen, Esq. is a certified public accountant and a tax attorney who provides the firm with legal and tax guidance, and assists with business development. Mr. Cohen is a former commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, and former partner of the law firm Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP. Mr. Cohen’s accomplishments span the course of over fifty years of experience as a Washington, D.C. tax attorney. He is a frequent lecturer at various tax institutions and universities across the country, and he recently served as the keynote speaker at a United Nations conference on tax administration in developing countries. He is listed in Euromoney’s guide as one of the world’s leading tax lawyers, and he has written numerous articles on tax subjects that have appeared in publications such as The American Bar Journal, The Tax Advisor, The Journal of Accounting, and the Pennsylvania Law Review. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America; Who’s Who in American Law, and is a member of the American College of Tax Law, and The American Law Institute.
Mr. Cohen graduated with honors from The George Washington University in 1950, and received his law degree with highest honors, graduating first in his class from The George Washington University National Law Center in 1952. Active in numerous civic organizations, Mr. Cohen is the former chairman of the Board of Trustees of George Washington University; past chairman of the American Jewish Historical Society; and current treasurer of The Supreme Court Historical Society. He also co-chaired the Mayor’s Transition Committee to Review the Department of Finance and Revenue in the District of Columbia during 1994-95.
Mr. Cohen is married and lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
