Investment Approach
The First Step. The first step
is the client interview. During this interview, Farr, Miller
& Washington portfolio managers work with you to define
your investment objectives. The goal is to learn as much as
possible about what you want to accomplish, focusing on concerns
such as the total balance sheet, diversification, issues of
timing, inflation, sensitivity, income requirements, and tax
and estate planning issues.
Our Investment Process.
The next step is to work with you to either develop or re-balance
your portfolio. Our equity investment process is analysis-driven,
employing a disciplined, bottom-up approach emphasizing reduced
risk and preservation of capital. Clients portfolios
are built one stock at a time: The Farr, Miller & Washington
investment committee meets regularly to discuss analytical
conclusions and conduct portfolio reviews. Each company is
considered for its appropriateness to individual portfolios
and to the clients established investment objectives.
We start with a select universe of approximately 250 stocks
representing all industry sectors. Following rigorous fundamental
analysis, candidates are selected for our "Focus List."
Depending on market conditions and company specific fundamentals, portfolios of approximately 30 to 40 stocks are typically built from that List.
